Advanced to the Top 20

Cathy Wester

I create art because it is who I am. Still in treatment for severe depression that refused to go unnoticed in 2009 my art helps me survive.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Currently my favorite type of art to create is glass bead weaving. Although I also work in photography, drawing, painting and embroidery.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in music. The piece I am working on now is inspired by the Beethoven violin concerto as performed by Hillary Hahn. Other pieces are inspired by Paul Simon's under African Skies, Claire de Lune as performed by Tomita in 1974, the Grand Canyon suite or orchestra, the song Be Not Afraid by John Michael Talbot and the Bolero ice dance program of Torvil and Dean from the 1984 Olympics.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would purchase a Nikon D850 camera, make new picture frames (the last time I made frames was in 1998), put together and tour a 40 year retrospective of my artwork and design and use a more professional and customer friendly website through Squarespace. Possibly rewire all of the electric in our house enabling me to actually use the power provided by the house.
