Chad Carter

I’ve always seen creating as a necessity for me. Its taught me confidence and to trust and focus on enjoying the process over an outcome.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

The past few years, I have really tried to focus on finding my painting style and I have found that I always have come back to these nostalgic folk themes. Settings that seem to me, peaceful, and have a story to tell. Solitude as old cabins deep in a forest, peace as a dog sleeping on a warm porch. I try to paint the things that stand out to me in daily life. I come from a background in custom paint which also shows through the design elements in some of my pieces. Find me @carterbrushworks !

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration for me comes from the music I listen to. Jim Croce, The Band, Thin Lizzy, John Prine, Gregory Alan Isakov, all amazing storytellers. Their songs motivate me to look at things differently and have shown me how to find life in ordinary every-day things that otherwise would go unnoticed. I’m inspired by my family history, the American West, the river I grew up by, my solo road trips and the things I’ve found along the way, and talks with friends over a drink after a long week of work.

What would you do with $25,000?

$25k could be used as an investment in my art and travels to stay inspired. But mostly to fund a bachelors degree to teach art. Everyone has a creative mind to be accessed. I enjoy finding what it takes to bring it out in others. When people work together creatively is when true innovation happens. In this age of AI, I believe creative thinking will become a rare commodity. To find your voice and make something worth leaving behind, and inspiring others, Is the greatest thing an artist can do.
