I make art to hold memory in place. Our stories, diaspora roots, & everyday Black life deserve to be seen, remembered, and carried forward.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!

Receive Text UpdatesI gravitate toward bold, Afrocentric, diaspora-rooted art that tells stories of Black life, history, and joy. My work leans into vibrant color, expressive portraiture, and layered symbolism, often grounded in my community. It’s less about decoration and more about legacy, memory, and community showing up loud and unapologetic.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from the my community—its streets, people, and history—especially the historic landmarks that although are gone, they fuel the pride of the community. My work is fueled by everyday community life, diasporic identity, Black culture, music, and memory. Even moments riding through the bus or watching neighbors interact become visual stories rooted in legacy, resilience, and joy.
What would you do with $25,000?If awarded $25,000 through the Johnny Depp The People’s Artist Award I would create a space for young artists in the community through supplies, workshops, and mentorship. I would also pay down personal debt to build financial stability, invest in a sustainable community art program, and travel for artistic inspiration—bringing back knowledge to strengthen and uplift my community through art. The term starving artist is real. This award would help me become a thriving artist.
