You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Wearable art using recycled natural fabrics. But like to make art "slow and steady" like the great Tina Turner said. Since 2012, I have been focusing on mostly cashmere. Buying new cashmere can be pricey and range between $50 to $200 a yard...sometimes more... but I enjoy using recycled for it is an opportunity to 1. make it affordable to others 2. gives it another life 3. saves the environment. I find joy in rescuing it and hope to give joy to others by transforming it into a new Happy.
Where do you find inspiration?Visions, dreams, music, fashion in the 20's, 70's, 90's, joy, waking up at 3am-4am and black & white movies. Socks...inspired from my time living in NYC as an artists, setting up at local markets at 5am in the frigid winter. Moving snow to set up a tent to sale art + needing to keep my feet warm. One morning, something told me to use the recycled cashmere + wrap it around my feet. It was a eureka moment! Now, I share the love + warmth by creating each sock as a huggable piece of art for others.
What would you do with $25,000?I would launch a website that sells the recycled cashmere socks and other unique recycled works of art. Include other artists on the platform in order to create a small community of those who are also into creating wearable art using recycled material. Invest in marketing. Source more recycled cashmere. Provide more socks to those in need. Pay my Photographer/Son and my Creative Advisor, my 76 year young Mama for years of continuous contributions to help support my art through their talents.
