I create my artwork for future generations. Leaving behind a legacy of my culture shows who we once were and that we still endure.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love connecting with my culture and telling my story of my family’s generations through my beadwork. Historically preserving the teachings of my ancestors plays a vital role inside my beading.
Where do you find inspiration?I am a Ute and Oglala Lakota Indigenous artist. I learned 44 years ago, to bead from my grandmother as a 5 year old child, and have carried on her teachings - she inspires me to continue teaching many others to this day. My inspiration draws from my people (Ute & Oglala), my ancestors, my homeland of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation, and through humble prayer.
What would you do with $25,000?Honestly, I’m just honored and grateful for this opportunity. I have been teaching the art of beadwork for 11 years, out of my own time and my own finances, so I would love to be able to give something back to my students, honoring all 300+ of them. I’m looking forward to doing this for all of them, and the people of the land.
