I create art as a means of expressing complicated emotions that often are difficult to put in words, but find themselves shown through color
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My pieces employ composite figures, composed as half-human, half-animal, which I enjoy creating as an animist who finds a connectedness between human and animal. It creates visual interest and helps the audience question the intention in relation to the narrative, aiming to depict women in non-traditional ways. I find that my collection reflects surrealism with modern forms of subjective realism, which showcases my inner emotions and psychological state as an artist through a visual means.
Where do you find inspiration? My work's inspiration stems from my experience advocating for women's rights, queer rights, and the rights of other marginalized communities. The artworks allude to female biblical figures, commenting on issues deemed 'controversial', and critiquing the modern sentiments in Christian-Nationalist spaces towards those deemed as the 'other'. I find great interest in creating visual representations of divine feminine archetypes. Specifically their relation to monotheism vs polytheism.
What would you do with $25,000?As an emerging artist who has just graduated with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from a local school, I would use the $25,000 to move from my storage unit into a professional studio where I have the capacity to create in an environment with other artists. The cost would likely serve as multiple rent payments, as well as savings towards a down payment on a living space. Additional means of usage would likely pertain to supplies: oil paints, wood panels, colored pencils, etc., that I have been buying.
