I create art because I find it freeing. I’d say I’m better at non-verbal communication, and my art makes me feel seen.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I mainly do sculpture, as I find 3D art helps me communicate more than 2D. I do dabble in other art forms, but ceramic is definitely my favorite. I’d consider myself fairly impatient with my projects, so I have to see the creative vision immediately, which I don’t usually get out of drawing or painting. Sculpture has little limitations, and I’ve decided that it’ll be up to me to decide what limits me.
Where do you find inspiration? It depends. Most of the time, a strong feeling or a certain event inspire me to show how I feel about it. I’m also inspired by other artists, especially poetry and other art forms that take a little bit more effort to understand. I want my art to mean multiple things to multiple people. That said, I do occasionally go to Pinterest for small projects that I’m doing in between the larger ones. I like to see what other artists are doing.
What would you do with $25,000?It would definitely go towards my college tuition. I’m going to Rhodes College in Memphis, which is a private liberal arts school so it’s quite costly. It’s also in one of the most artistic locations in the country, rich with history and emotion. I plan to major in biology, as I’m on the path to becoming a surgeon, but I also plan to either double major or minor in art.
