I am both discovering and creating myself in my work. The mystery in the Alchemy of creating makes me feel fully human.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love the complexity of the human figure and rendering it in ways that show its strength and elegance. I love the immediacy of drawing and the challenge and process of printmaking.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the soon forgotten moments of life, the tenderness of grandparents with children, the gentleman who stares at the wall in the underpass day after day, the moments of unexpected grace and love which are almost always paired with suffering and difficulty. I also find inspiration in artists who draw the figure, specifically the work of the Mexican muralists and Kathe Kollwitz and Albrecht Durer. And also the deep ocean of music that can deepen any mood you need to create in.
What would you do with $25,000?Rent a studio space large enough to teach printmaking and to draw and paint and print larger pieces. I would also use it to travel and interview and learn to deepen my practice.
