I make art to figure out what’s real. I break it down until something truer, or stranger, appears. And sometimes it makes me laugh!

I paint faces in my signature style, I call Cubo-Weirdism. I break down pop culture figures through distortion and unexpected juxtapositions, allowing multiple aspects of a subject to exist at once. I’m interested in how identity fragments and shifts. I also leave room for humour. If a painting makes someone laugh out loud, my job is done.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in pop culture, and the people (especially faces) that surround me. I’m also influenced by modernist painting and George Condo’s idea of psychological cubism. Where a subject can hold multiple states of mind in a single image.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the prize money to rent a larger studio space and purchase more materials. It has long been my goal to create large-scale Cubo-Weirdist paintings, and a larger studio would give me the space to both create and store this work.
