I make things. I paint. I’m a fourth generation goldsmith. My whole life has been dedicated to making work for people to make them happy.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love traditional oil painting. I love the chemistry. The fact that color wheel is just magic. You only need three. Red. Yellow. Blue. To temper that use a very warm black called Van Dyke Brown ( not Dick Van…), and very balanced titanium white. With these very simple pigments…you can make any colour. As far as my goldsmith and jewelry, I love the tactile part of it. Wax carving. Metal forging. Polishing. I just love it. I love making things to make people happy.
Where do you find inspiration?I honestly find inspiration in meeting the people I’ve made paintings and drawings and jewelry for. It’s funny, I can’t afford my own work. The really cool thing is that I can make a painting, and in my blog ( I know…) I’ll talk about ANYTHING, but the painting. It’s the privilege of the viewer to appreciate what they feel.
What would you do with $25,000?I honestly don’t know. It’s a nice amount of money, but I think I’d use it to teach painting and drawing again. Seriously, I could use that money to buy me a little time for a show, but I think I’d use it to help people get off their fuc*king phones and make something. I think there is something valid in picking up a pencil…and go walking with a line. Hey, I’m just a midwestern guy who is passionate about art, music, literature. I think we’ve lost that. I’d use it to help other artists.
