Clair Kehrberg

I love art because it provides a beautiful reprieve from a world that can get ugly. The more beauty we create, the more beautiful the world

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I love to create leather art, specially hand tooled leather pieces. Leather tooling is an ancient art form made popular where I am from by traditional western saddle makers. I am a born and raised American cowgirl and because of that background I began my artistic career in western saddlery. I love to push the boundaries beyond what is practical for using gear, but makes gloriously stimulating art!

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in nature, from my western heritage and cowboy culture and I am immensely inspired by badass women!! I find silver engraving inspiring and you can see its influence in my leatherwork. There is so much beauty in this world if you are just willing to see it! Inspiration can really be found anywhere

What would you do with $25,000?

I would like to use the $25,000 to upgrade some of my equipment and add better storage options for my tools and supplies. I would also use the money to source materials for new works of art. Leather and silver supplies are expensive which makes it a challenge to create.
