The kind that makes people pause and say, “no way that’s a plastic straw.” I love creating pieces that puzzle people at first glance, but mean something deeper once they understand the story behind them. For me, art is about transformation. Taking something discarded and turning it into something timeless, something wearable, something that can be shared and taught globally.
Where do you find inspiration?In the overlooked. In the things people throw away without thinking twice. I see beauty in what’s been trashed and I imagine what they could become. I don’t see waste, I see molecules needing transformation with some heat and crafty hands. My inspiration also comes from people. From teaching, sharing, and watching someone realize they can create something powerful with their own hands. Seeing others inspired, inspires me to continue creating.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d host upcycling workshops around the world and inspire other people to get crafty. I'd also use part of the funds to purchase a dental x-ray machine to serve people in Peru and donate some proceeds two Houston charities, Dream Rydes and Medical Bridges.
