Exploring through this journey of development, my painting has been moving towards a self-directed challenge to fill the frame quickly with no limitations. Texture and surface building for things within the environment, to an experimental level. Incorporating the sculptural aspects of paint with pallet knife work and using the exploration of energy within line work and the unseen world that can be felt through movement and dynamics. Focusing on color as a storytelling device.
Where do you find inspiration?I want to show activities and energies pertaining to the culture of the Acadien and Mi’kmaq cultures, both individually and together. These paintings will explore glimpses and moments captured through energy and form. Each was a part of my Maternal Grandmother’s upbringing in diverse ways, and I want to honor each by bringing moments of history to life. The viewer may catch a glimpse of the intrigue of what North America could have been without interference.
What would you do with $25,000?I would donate some to the Acadien and Mi’kmaq museums in Newfoundland and continue doing further research on the inter-dynamics of the two cultures, by traveling and creating more art.
