I create this type of art to help preserve the frontier spirit of the West, and to further promote the Cowboy Arts and saddle making.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I take great pride in crafting high quality saddles and silver for Cowboys and Cowgirls across the Western culture industry. From the Rodeo Arena to the wide open ranches of the American West.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from other western craftsmen, nature and architecture. I appreciate the craft of others hands, from sculpting, carving to the writing of fine script. To emulate nature is the greatest challenge in leather craft. To recreate a flower on leather and do it proficiently, is a skill that takes hours of drawing and carving skill in order to emulate that flower from nature. From Greek, Gothic to Corinthian columns, scrolls are a major source of inspiration for me.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use it to reinvest in my shop for tools, equipment and materials that would allow me to be more proficient and refined. However my main focus would be to invest a good portion to study with other saddle makers and silversmiths who I look up to in order to become the best maker I can be. I would do this so at some point I could realize my goal of passing on this craft of the Great American West!
