Ideas I dream, I jot down in a bedside notebook. By day, I have 4 projects going at once. Art-making is my driving force and life breath.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Every artwork I birth starts with a drawing. Drawing is a calm and quiet form of meditation. The satisfying sensation one gets from covering blank paper with deliberate mark-making is almost addictive. Covering empty paper with a pencil point is delicious. I then ramp up the impact of an “origination drawing” by using 21c technologies to create various iterations. I make video animations, 3D lenticulars, and interactive computer programmed touchscreen works. But, drawing is my first love.

Where do you find inspiration?

Human psychology and behavior are of great interest and consternation to me. Throw in pop culture and politics and I have enough fodder from which to create a lifetime of narrative artworks. My images may be aesthetically pleasing but a closer look reveals a message or story I want the viewer to contemplate. Artists are stereotyped as empaths. This attribute would be true of me. In a mean world I cannot help reflecting some of our deepest woes. My seminal piece is a memorial to Trevon Martin.

What would you do with $25,000?

My most ambitious work involves developing interactive artworks. I create storyboards and original art that I then hand over to computer coders. My team programs my art to come alive on a touchscreen monitor, where the viewer’s fingertips playing on the surface allow them to shape the unknown and articulate the unarticulated. Art viewers are starved for interaction and connection with art makers. These pieces demand a longer attention span in real time to fully engage. This endeavor is costly!
