I practice my art as a cultural expression of two powerful first nation cultures from opposite ends of canada. My genetic lineage.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art is traditional cedar panels as they combine both sides of my aboriginal culture from opposite sides of my country Canada. I combine the raw materials and style of the kwakwaka'wakw first nation from Vancouver island. Through traditional tools and techniques i also include symbolism from the conne river micmac first nation located in the province of newfoundland. My works are representative of my genetic lineage combining these two powerful first nation coastal cultures.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration through my family from both sides of my aboriginal ancestry,as well as experiences in my life so far. Whether they be success or failure, they have taught me many lessons along my journey and have given me vision and strength as well as the appreciation for the simple things we most take forgranted. Patience and connection provide the ability to create in any forum of expression.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were selected for the prize I would invest it in obtaining more raw materials from western Canada. In particular Vancouver island. These funds would give me the means to purchase and ship western red cedar logs to my home province of Newfoundland. The logistics of getting raw materials of this nature 6000 kilometers across the country are quite expensive. If I could acquire these materials and have them shipped here i could take my works to the next level in creations such as totem poles.
