Advanced to the Top 20

Craig Newman

I love creating art because it brings me peace. I have many stresses in my life and painting allows me to focus solely on the work.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Oil paintings mainly. Peaceful landscape scenes with spiritual undertones.

Where do you find inspiration?

I live in Lake Tahoe. The scenery alone is breathtaking and very inspirational. I love the seasons, particularly the spring. I love nature—the lake and the meadow. I connect with the winged, the four-legged, the snakes, and the creepy crawlers. I feel a spiritual connection with the native communities who lived there before me. My greatest inspiration is honoring the spirit of this incredible place in a way that serves its natural beauty.

What would you do with $25,000?

What I’d do with this money is start a clothing brand rooted in the 530, giving back to local communities—especially mental health. Each piece would be made from organic cotton and bamboo, sourced ethically. It’s more than clothing, it’s something people can wear that stands for care, intention, and real impact.
