Drawing has been my life’s constant since I was eight years old. It is more than a passion—it is my soul, my whole being.

There is something incredibly raw and honest about the faces of children and the elderly. They represent the two ends of the emotional spectrum: the unfiltered, brand-new discovery of the world and the deep, textured history of having lived through it. Pointillism gives me the outlet to bring those features to life on paper.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from the way art translates human emotion, particularly through portraiture. There is a profound honesty in the expressions of the young and the old that I find deeply moving and influential for my own life.
What would you do with $25,000?For me, this prize represents a bridge between my art and my daughter’s future in medicine. I intend to use the funds to sustain my studio practice and to help my family, specifically by easing the financial burden on my daughter in medical school. My health journey has been difficult, but it inspired her to pursue a life of healing. After years of hard work and two Master’s degrees, she is on the cusp of her dream. This money would not just pay bills; it would invest in her goals.
