I create because it frees me from society’s shackles. Creationism is how I show my pain and my love together..that’s what makes me who I am.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I really enjoy walking around downtown El Paso and taking pictures of my community, preferably black and white. I love to do abstract paintings that reflect all the pain I see in the world right now. I also like to do mixed media paintings where I used everything from spray paints, acrylic, oil, markers, scraps different designs paper, photographs.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from the people I have around me, all artist themselves. Also the idea that I could be such a great example to young people to never give up even when all the cards are against you! Benjamin Alire Saenz, the person who provided all the resources I needed to try any and every form of artistical creation I found interest in. He saved my life and showed me the a completely different world through being an artist. He is the biggest inspiration in my life.

What would you do with $25,000?

I currently run a gallery for an author named Benjamin Alire Saenz where I do different events that showcase the different artists in my community; acrylic paintings, oil painters, live music, photography, mixed media, book signees, theatrical plays, yoga classes, dance classes, private chef lessons, to even having a techno bus. It brings everyone together for people to see how many talented artists there are in the city of El Paso.
