Danielle Kerper

The freedom of art for me is the freedom I get to express every bit of me I can’t be vocal about. That turns into 1000s for anyone else.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I like to create expressive art, whether character or landscape, to bring out the depth of what my voice is hoping to express. I want to make light out of darkness and everything in between with my color palette, strokes, lines, and the facial expressions. I want my work to speak for me and find the voice in others that they had been looking for. It could be chaotic, unpredictable, unusual, or strangely …normal. But I want my work to find me in others and others in me.

Where do you find inspiration?

Mental health is the major inspiration to my work. Understanding the good, the bad and the quirky. Sometimes I paint about cities to represent the loneliness inside a person or design a character that expresses the loudness in someone’s mind. I look for quirks in how a creature reacts to something that could be normal to someone else. I also take inspiration from my own life as a little person (person with dwarfism). I look for ways to explain how the world can view my world.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would pay off all my debt from my vending fees, travel expenses, food and gas, etc. Then, I would take 10% and deposit it into a savings. Another 10% to invest further into my art (like trademarking my logo, publishing my character’s story and finding an agent or lawyer.) Lastly, but will be first, I want to help my parents out as they invested so much to help me succeed. Without their support, their time, and their sacrifice to work with me at events, I wouldn’t be here now writing this.
