What is your favorite type of art to create?

I have a passion for creating large-scale ceramic sculpture. Not only is it a challenge working with clay on a colossal scale, but large-scale helps me create a sense of urgency about our eco-emergency. Monumental scale for a monumental message. Additionally, I enjoy the materiality of clay - clay is a malleable material that can be shaped into personalized form. It records each and every touch; further accentuating concepts of the human impact on our local and global ecosystems.

Where do you find inspiration?

My work is influenced by everyday observations of landscapes (naturally occurring & human altered), environmental catastrophes, & how present-day society interacts with nature. I am passionate about green health because I grew up in a rural location where I learned from an early age to respect natural ecologies through acts of: gardening, food preservation, & livestock care. As an adult, reflecting on these experiences that influenced my values I am especially aware of eco-travesties.

What would you do with $25,000?

First, I would purchase an Oval Kiln (approximately $10,000 plus shipping). This would allow me to engage more consistently with the ceramics side of my practice and continue developing new and exciting forms. After purchasing a kiln, I would put the remaining amount towards my student debt.
