For many years, I hid from myself and my true inner feelings. Stay safe, Daylene! Well, WTF! Listen to your heart song. Art has saved me.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Abstract Mixed Media- metals, dyes and found objects. I like to take one simple element and see where my inner soul takes me with it. Creativity is the healing power alongside LOVE. Recent life health stuff has made me realize that our personal stories are so important- verbally, as well as within our art. We all have something to share with others. Art is my language at the moment- the good, bad, and sometimes, eh? Healing is sharing. We all have a story to tell.
Where do you find inspiration? My Inspiration- Trying to understand our packaging waste and enormous consumption in the USA. Do we need all the layers of plastics and cardboard? Do we need to keep buying new, if we can just fix the old classics and bring new life to them? I guess that motivates me most. I love picking up old furniture that’s left free on the side of the street and also hitting garage sales and thrift shops. What’s junk and worn out, can be new and appreciated again with a little LOVE for someone else.
What would you do with $25,000?I would offer an annual free art retreat with fellow liked minded people to scavenge thrown away stuff and repurpose, upcycle, or just help others open the “closed doors” that some people have with letting their creative souls speak to them. The best therapy is ART, but needs to be done in a positive and safe space to explore. I have been a school teacher, art teacher, and self-represented artist. The art world is tough. I just know I am the most happy creating and brings out the best in me.
