I create art to honor Black identity, hold our stories, and turn our spirit, history, and expression into something seen and felt.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite art to create centers Black hair and the Black lived experience. Through stippled black and white work, I explore locs, texture, and form as expressions of identity, ancestry, and spirit. Each piece is built with intention, reflecting the depth, history, and presence carried within Blackness while honoring our stories as something seen, felt, and continuously becoming.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in being Black, living Black, seeing Black, and honoring Black in all its forms. In everyday moments, in our stories, in our resilience, softness, and joy. I’m inspired by what we carry, what we create, and what we continue to become. My work is also shaped by spaces of healing, reflection, and growth where meaning is made, and where we choose ourselves again and again.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the $25K to expand my creative and healing work by investing in my art and The Day Is Won podcast, creating content centered on Black identity and empowerment. I would also fund community workshops that integrate art and mental health, offering culturally responsive spaces for reflection and growth. A portion would support my development as a counselor-educator, strengthening my ability to teach, lead, and serve allowing me to move from vision to impact, & advocacy for my community.
