I create art because I don’t know who I am without it. Honestly, it’s embarrassing but I have tied my entire existence to making art.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite art involves people. I love to do figure drawings with charcoal or oil pastels. It brings me immense joy when I capture someone’s essence in a drawing. I’ve always struggled to be comfortable in my body but drawing myself and others helps me understand it’s just my vessel. Well not just, It is my vessel, my temple. Drawing people has given me mindfulness. It helps me appreciate and understand that I am a human and I live in a society with other humans.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in things that make me feel. It’s simple, when things are pretty or smell good, I paint. When i’m so upset I don’t know what to do with myself, I draw. I know it’s cliche but art helps me express myself in ways I never have been able to before. I’m not the biggest reader and I don’t really enjoy talking so art is my outlet. I’m inspired by being a human and observing myself and the world around me.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were given $25,000, I would invest it with the goal of eventually creating a space for artists..a venue where creativity is accessible and shared. I want to build a community hub for workshops, exhibitions, and open studio nights, especially for those who don’t yet see themselves as artists. My goal is to make art feel welcoming, not intimidating, and to create a space where anyone can explore, grow, and feel like they belong.
