It can’t be explained; to creat art is like walking, it was born with me. To create is Zen through colors, materials outside of the world.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Tapestry and handicrafts: weaving together threads, wool, and various materials and textures to create a result of magical realism—crafted with soul and beauty. Every part of it is my favorite—from the sketch to the finished piece; it is telling a story on a canvas. My favorite type of art is the one I create using a needle—specifically, the one called "Peyon." It yields to my touch, and once I have established the images or shapes, I love to feel the texture of the piece.
Where do you find inspiration?Remembering my Indigenous origins, my childhood, and my migratory and urban experiences, I simply close my eyes and see colors—forms moving like waves; it is speaking without words. My inspiration for creating art does not come from a single place—it is a living blend of who I am and what I have lived. It is a spiritual station. Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. A graphic designer and artisan, It’s possible that I—working with kindergarteners—also draw my inspiration from their purity and energy.
What would you do with $25,000?I don't just do tapestry work; I crochet, draw, and illustrate, and I dance salsa and other rhythms. When I am creating my artwork, I feel so happy. I even sing! That is why I would like to have a larger room where I can truly immerse myself in my own world. As an artist, I want to showcase my work to Spanish and English-speaking audiences; I also really enjoy answering these questions, as doing so feels a bit like living out a dream. Thank you very much, Mr. Johnny Depp.
