I create art to confront absence. In Ciudad Juárez, I am drawn to the aesthetic of abandonment: the traces of what is no longer there.

My favorite types of art to create are painting and photography. Through both, I portray everyday life in Ciudad Juárez, a border city between Mexico and the United States. I am especially drawn to abandoned spaces that hold layered histories and traces of what once was. My work invites reflection and awareness of complex lived experiences.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the history of places and what they reveal over time. I am drawn to the traces they leave and the stories embedded within them. Photography, for me, is a way to leave a record and preserve these narratives. It is my passion because it allows me to document time, memory, and space, transforming what I observe into visual testimony that invites reflection and connection.
What would you do with $25,000?If awarded $25,000, I would use part of the funds to help restore an abandoned space in Ciudad Juárez and transform it into a center for feminist historical archives from the border region. This space would preserve memory and support research around local histories. I would also collaborate with friends and colleagues to develop programs and initiatives that engage the community, foster dialogue, and address the complex realities shaping women’s lives in our region.
