What is your favorite type of art to create?

It's hard to choose as there are so many mediums I enjoy using. I enjoy painting one inch squares into a complex collage of quilt motifs, checkerboards and abstract patterns and infusing spirals and stellar shapes using lots of colors on a black background (using acrylics). But I also love using clay, alcohol markers, colored pencils, stained glass, metal sculpture, graphic design, collage, photography, graphite, paper arts and laser projects. I enjoy making things from cigar boxes.

Where do you find inspiration?

For my Square Space paintings, my grandmother's quilting is a huge inspiration. She was very good at making them and even won awards. I also look through quilting books. Quilt motifs have different meanings. Looking at plastic templates gives me inspiration for geometric designs on squares. But for art in general I find inspiration everywhere. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains where I live or walking through the hardware store and finding objects I can use to to create something amazing.

What would you do with $25,000?

Finish my art space and buy art supplies. I have holes in the floor of my artspace. It used to be a chicken coop on one side and a work area on the other. We tore the wall down that separated the space and made one space, but the floor is rotting and needs replaced. I would also take some classes, like welding.
