My favorite type of art to create is painting portraits in oil and pastel. There's something about capturing a person's face. Their expression, the light in their eyes, the subtle geometry of who they are , that pulls me in completely. I work from photos, which gives me the freedom to really study a face at my own pace, to keep returning to those quiet details that make a portrait feel alive rather than just accurate.
Where do you find inspiration?I love people, and the moment. Oil gives me richness and depth , that luminous quality that makes skin look like it has warmth underneath it. Pastel gives me something looser, more immediate, almost like sketching with light. I love having both in my world. Portrait painting reminds me to slow down and actually see people. In a way, it's one of the most human things I do.
What would you do with $25,000?I would continue to paint and help my children.
