Unpredictable images are the habit of my process as an artist. I term the unknowable part of the process “the unconscious gift machine.” Work is ongoing in the process of self-discovery with direct attention to the human condition. But the completed image, a form of textured desirability and coloration, an unexpected revealing of the subject that the viewer might also recognize, contains what I am drawn to representing.
Where do you find inspiration?Temperament defines my approach to visual art. Working through and failure to work through personal flaws in the development of subjective character is, from a self-accepting perspective, an “inspiration.” Justice and connection to tragedy from the lack of justice, generates compassion and a need to represent perplexing images. Family, long marriage, imagination as an actual force, make a positive dimension recognizable. I am inspired by emotional consciousness that is not so obviously complex.
What would you do with $25,000?Pay off some debt. Help out my daughter and her family. Purchase mat and frame material for a future exhibit. Possibly travel with my wife Linda to visit museums in Europe and Mexico.
