I was in fourth grade when I realized that drawing and painting was like breathing to me. It’s still that important. It is how I stay alive.

Large oil paintings that combine DeKooning like abstraction with figuration. Spontaneity and controlled drawing and painting. Non linear narratives based in a stream of consciousness mixed with intentional narrative elements that develop through the process. I like to leave previous layers exposed to allow the history of the process to be revealed.
Where do you find inspiration?Everyday life. The people I know, the news I can’t get away from, the feelings that have developed in me since childhood and my memories. Artists that moved me at museums when I was young still take my breath away. The magic of seeing Degas, Cassatt, Cezanne and Manet the first time is still with me. The Abstract Expressionists had a similar effect on me in college. Then Rauschenberg seemed to show how to create non linear narratives and his work still inspires me.
What would you do with $25,000?Buy time. Time in the studio is the most valuable thing in my life. Time in the studio and time to research through travel are the most essential elements of life to me. There’s no joy like the joy of being in flow. When hours pass while painting and you’re not even aware that time has passed is an ineffable experience. It’s the real reason for painting. It is pure.
