Drena

Creating art makes me feel alive, calm, & present. It helps me see that the whole is greater than the sum. I find the Self there.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I reflect the physical properties of light & a deeper sense of wholeness. My art is about the connection between light and material, between fragments & unity, & between the many perspectives that shape how we see the world. I use glass, tile, and stone to guide the viewer’s eye, bringing attention to certain areas while allowing others to fade into the background at diff times. Work changes with the light and position (distance and angle) much like life itself.

Where do you find inspiration?

It comes from how light moves and how perspective shifts not just with distance, but with position & angle. Using glass, tile, & stone, I explore how light reflects and refracts, revealing different meanings over time. Each moment, like a small imperfect tile, may seem insignificant alone, but together they form something whole. In stained glass, color is filtered light, much like our perspectives shaped by experience. My work reflects the connection between light, imperfection, & unity. Yoga.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would use this funding to invest in additional materials to continue my art work and also in creating an outdoor space to do my art work so that I can more easily play with the properties of light and perspective where there is natural light. I also would participate in additional training and classes to fine tune my work. Eventually, I want to host events where I can teach others about mosaics and stained glass and have my community create a piece together.
