Duane Lyken

I create because it’s how I learn the world and connect with people. I can either tell a story with a pen or my camera. Cameras chose me.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Photography is my jam. Portraits, moments, environments where there’s emotion and intention behind what’s happening. I like work that feels lived in, not staged. When someone can look at an image and feel something without me explaining it, that’s my lane.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everyday life, conversations, culture, travel and fashion provoke my creativity. I love the way people move, interact, and express themselves. Sometimes I enjoy the chaos of color and contrast coming together, while other times I just want to honor the representation of serenity.

What would you do with $25,000?

I’d invest it back into the work and the platform. It would be great to exhibit work, fund more intentional projects, or create opportunities for other creatives to be part of something meaningful. I’ve dreamed of building out experiences that bring people into the art of photography, not just to view it, but to be part of it. Long term, I want to create something sustainable that continues beyond me and bring people together from all over the world.
