My favorite classic medium is oil on canvas. The style, too, is a century old—namely, Abstract Expressionism. Taken together, these elements create tension between the ego—the desire to leave behind a permanent trace, like the tail of a comet—and the judgment of the unenlightened, who perceive this style of painting as an overrated, facile approach.
