Elena du Plessis

I don’t know why I paint at 67 it’s a continuation of what I was doing at 6. I try to do with paint what some can do with words or music .

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Oil paintings on large canvases and mix media collage on paper

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration stems from my environment. When I paint I’m pulling from memory and a feeling. Something a saw while driving walking or a conversation. All these influence my mark making . I could be painting a flower but then it becomes the flowing folkloric skirt from a far off- time. I may be in Dallas but experiences from all where I lived merge. I let the painting tell the story.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would start by establishing an emergency fund and definitely help my two children pay down some of their debt, start an account for my grandchild.
