Eliza Prakhin

I love the idea of creating something that will be passed down through generations. A moment captured and shared within a family forever.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

My favorite art to create leans toward realism, although my work naturally drifts into something more expressive. Even when I aim for accuracy, there’s always a slightly surreal or cartoon-like quality that finds its way in, which I’ve come to embrace rather than something to correct. I’m especially drawn to painting nature, flowers, sunsets, and skies because they feel alive and constantly shifting. There’s something powerful about trying to capture a moment that only last a few seconds.

Where do you find inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from simply paying attention. When I slow down and really look at what’s around me, even ordinary moments start to feel visually and emotionally significant. Whether it’s a quiet sunset or a passing expression on someone’s face, those small moments often become the starting point for my work. I’m also deeply inspired by nature, especially color. The way the sky shifts throughout the day, the softness or intensity of light in a single moment.

What would you do with $25,000?

With $25,000, I would invest directly into both my artistic growth and long-term sustainability as an artist. One of my biggest goals is to study abroad in a dedicated art program, and this would give me the opportunity to finally pursue formal training and immerse myself in a new creative environment. I would dedicate part of the funds to building a consistent body of work. Having the financial freedom to focus on creating without constant limitation would allow me to grow much faster.
