Elizabeth Myers

I create art because art is everything I am. I make art to help others understand me as a person. Without art I feel empty.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I love to create 3D works of art. I love how it feels as if the art is reaching out into reality. I use art as a way to make sense of this extremely complicated, confusing world we call home. By making my art 3D whether that be through sculpture, collages, or simply incorporateing the use of different textures in my work it can help make the art feel more impactful, not only to me but also to the viewer. I love 3D work so much that I will be studying sculpture at Truman State University.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in myself. I pull from my own emotions and my own mind to create most of my work. As my art is a way of self expression, I pull from myself to create the expression. I am someone who feels an immense amount of emotions. It can feel extremely overwhelming and difficult to work through, so I like to express that experience through my art. I also pull a lot of inspiration from social issues as art is extremely political and I personally use my art to start bigger conversations

What would you do with $25,000?

I would use $25,000 to help pay for my college tuition. College is extremely important to me, but it is a very big expense, an expense that is difficult for me and my family to pay for. With $25,000 I can focus on the future an catapulting my career. By furthering my career I would be able to give back to my family and the community who gave me so much. It is one of my many goals to retire my parents at some point in my life, this $25,000 would put me on the path to do just that.
