Elizabeth Schafer

I love to create art in the way that I do because it is what makes the most sense to me and gives me a sense of purpose.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I work in sculpture. My works are inspired by women who have a loud presence in this world. I build up these sculptures that resonate with the people who inspire them and paint them in a feminine, tactile, gentle, but strong material that is yarn.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from women who speak to me on a deeper level. They give me a better sense of what the human experience truly is and what is right.

What would you do with $25,000?

With $25,000, I would start up the process of building a gallery in New York City, where it will house artwork created by people who truly want to make a difference in this messy but beautiful world. The artists in this space will use their artistic creativity to make an impactful change. This prize would be used to make a difference, not to make money.
