Collage has always felt innate and natural to me, my scissors feel like an extension of myself. I love to cut things up and give new meaning to old life. I am drawn to the obsessive nature of collage, seeing pieces scattered then like a puzzle bringing them together to express how I feel. Collage is like a language for me, and I let it speak for me. Performance art and street work have also come from my collage practice and I love to watch it evolve into more ways of expression.
Where do you find inspiration?I’m always looking for inspiration, even when I think I’m not. I always know when I find it. I trust what inspires me, even if it’s a dirty pizza box or a wrapper I find on the sidewalk. That is what is exciting about art—when inspiration turns into something real, it’s magical. I love old magazines, old books, records, old quotes, fashion, advertisements. I love the past. I go to flea markets, bookstores, vintage shops, record stores. I think life is about the search. Discovery is inspiring.
What would you do with $25,000?Buy more books and magazines and records to make more art with, and use it to help pay my rent.
