My favorite type of art to create is work that sits in an uncomfortable, in-between space—where the body, emotion, and memory start to blur into something unstable. I’m drawn to figuration, but not in a traditional sense. I like when the figure begins to distort, dissolve, or feel almost unrecognizable, because that’s where something more honest can emerge.
Where do you find inspiration?My background plays a significant role in shaping my inspiration. As an Iranian woman artist Growing up within cultural and social constraints created a heightened awareness of visibility, control, and self-censorship. That tension between what is expressed and what is withheld continues to influence my work. It often appears through distorted figures or obscured forms, as if the subject is both revealing and protecting itself at the same time.
What would you do with $25,000?It would definitely help me with my student loan and expend my studio.
