I love to create with a message of curiosity of my material use to canvas. I tell a story of my past indigenous history and my life on being a Navajo, (Dine) on this tiny reservation given to us by the U.S government. There are times I use objects that is out of junkyards and bring them back to life in a authentic way. It gives me so many ideas in return with how the objects talks to me, and how it shows me it's own path to take that certain direction to create it's multiple images.
Where do you find inspiration? In the life I have lived of failures in doing my Art. I hitchhiked walking along the roads thinking if I will ever make it big somewhere. The drinking that brought me nothing in return to just keep banging at my ideas. I enter art shows and galleries and keep getting rejected, and thinking I'm not good enough. The hard part is always struggling to come up with something different all the time. To see someone cry or feel gracious inside when they view my art. That is my inspiration.
What would you do with $25,000?To be better and progress to show my audience that I have what it takes. Show my 3 kids that daddy is a wonderful artist. I hope they follow my footsteps to keep our indigenous people on the map of U.S. never to be forgotten or eliminated. To use their voice in art to change the perspective of our human existence.
