What is your favorite type of art to create?

My favorite type of art is symbolic narrative art that tells a real human story. I mostly create work that reflects lived experience—especially themes of service, identity, resilience, unseen struggles people carry. Pieces like Little Captain, or the More Bombs Less Milk collection represent how art can communicate emotion and truth in ways words cant. I’m drawn to art that connects with everyday people, not just gallery audiences. Work that sparks reflection, conversation, and empathy.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in my military service, my family and my community in Arkansas. I find inspiration in the stories of people whose voices are often silenced or overlooked. I’m especially inspired by contrast: strength and vulnerability, sacrifice and hope, hardship and humor. I also draw inspiration from public spaces, ordinary environments, like my local horse track and the works by many artists of my local dowtown historic district. I believe artist thrive surrounded by other artists.

What would you do with $25,000?

If selected, I would use the $25,000 to expand my current studio or build a dedicated studio to produce larger work, hold meetings and teach classes. My dream is to open my own gallery and start an Art-therapy foundation for veterans, their families, and others living with trauma. Art has helped me find myself after service, and my goal is to create a space where art can aid others heal, express themselves, reconnect and find true peace through the creative process like I did.
