Pottery is my most fiery passion (pun intended). I describe my work as an eclectic collection of what suits my fancy that day, functional art, beautiful pieces you’d be happy to use or display in your home. I want to bring smiles to the faces of everyone who sees my work. I haven’t found my niche as many artists have, so I’m excited to continue exploring different types of sculptural, decorative, and functional works I can make. With pottery, the possibilities are endless!
Where do you find inspiration?I am inspired by those around me. Family, friends, and especially my pottery people who encourage me to try new things and push myself to be better. My partner, who has always supported my love of pottery, actually inspired my studio name “Sparking FIRE Pottery” as a nod to the FIRE movement (financial independence retire early), so it’s a bit of a dual meaning. Lastly, my cat of ten years, Kylo, is my greatest muse and inspiration of all. I create pieces in dedication to him.
What would you do with $25,000?If I win, I would donate $10,000 to Art Alliance of Greensboro, a nonprofit organization where I first began learning ceramics. The remaining would go towards a home studio for myself and my sister, who first introduced me to pottery. We work out of a community studio and although I love the community and inspiration we’ve developed there, I’d like my own space where I can create without limitation.
