Emily Ottinger

My grandfather recently died at 94. He told me to do something for myself each and everyday. That’s what my art is.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Oil painting, architecture, and digital sketches. I work as an architect but have always been a traditional artist. I’ve worked on commissions for friends and some clients.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from my immediate environment, my neighborhood in Beacon Hill Boston, scenes of the city, people and faces I interact with throughout the day.

What would you do with $25,000?

My good friend is trying to build a hospital and school in Kenya. I’d use the money to get this effort off the ground. He suffered from an heart attack a year ago and I have helped to guide him as a runner as his goal is to run the Boston marathon in 2027, which is also my goal. He wants to build a hospital in Wahito where he grew up is Kenya and we are in the early stages of planning. The project will cost 1 million to build and operate for 10 years and we have just begun to plan.
