I started creating art as a form of mindfulness, focusing on the act of close looking and capturing the beauty of the overlooked and mundane

I typically find inspiration in the everyday. Whether it’s buildings, animals, or still life’s, I believe it’s important to take the time to notice the beauty in what is often overlooked. My focus particularly pertains to how lighting conditions can affect our perceptions of such spaces, and the interconnected relationship between photo realism and abstraction.
Where do you find inspiration?I like to source my own photos as much as possible! I’m not a photographer by any means but I love to try and capture inspiration from familiar spaces. I’m from a small town in Nova Scotia Canada and love to work from what I know best. This creates a deeper personal connection but also allows the community to reflect on spaces and experiences we ignore as a society.
What would you do with $25,000?I just graduated from Mount Allison University with a BFA and am taking my Bachelor of Education in the fall. $25,000 would not only benefit my education but also my practice, increasing my studio space and allowing me to afford supplies and materials without worry. Aside from the money and truly more valuable to me, is a space and platform to share my art. Living in a small town, the opportunity to expand my reach is limited and this project would greatly impact my ability to do so.
