To understand autism, you must see it through it the eyes of someone with it. My need for structure and order is expressed in my photos.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite form of art is photography. It is a medium which directly acts as vessel to capture how my mind views the world uniquely. Considering autism serves as a fundamental difference in cognitive function and perception of sensory stimuli, my photos present a distinct perspective in how autistic people view the world around us especially when it relates to people, objects, patterns, and colors.
Where do you find inspiration?I rarely am "inspired" in the regular sense of the word as my mind’s usage of photography is first and foremost catharsis. Each photo I take, each composition built, works to deregulate an often overstimulated mind. In essence, my photos are unique in that they serve not function as mimicry of a style, but what my mind finds visually soothing.
What would you do with $25,000?Pay off my student loans so that I may have a career to not only sustain myself financially but also so that I may have the time to continue my passion of photography. As someone on the autism spectrum, financial stability isn’t just practical, it’s what creates the space for creative work to thrive, and this would give me the foundation to build that future.
