Leaning towards sculpture has always been my tendency however after many many years as a C-33 painting and decorating contractor, Im also passionate about painting portraits of other women artists and family members.
Where do you find inspiration?My practice centers on salvaging…Treasure hunting for materials, and transformation of these treasures are inspired by Los Angeles’s cycles of demolition and renewal. With these materials I explore family, queerness, aging, and existing at the periphery. I’m inspired by discarded materials with visible histories—objects I reconfigure to shift meaning and suggest new possibilities. The work holds tension between past and present, inviting reflection on cycles of loss, value, and renewal.
What would you do with $25,000?The funds would help to dedicate more time to my work and help me to create new work that I can exhibit and sell.
