Art is therapy. One day I told myself "I can" at a time when I thought I couldn't. To my surprise my visions came to life.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Pyrography is my chosen art. I love the slow and natural progression of it and watching the wood come to life. I also love the challenge of working with heat and fire to create a natural colour palette for my images as well as testing my abilities on different backdrops such as leather, bark or even bone! There is so much to discover with this art form, I strive to learn something new with each piece.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my inspiration in nature, but I like to seek out the imperfections in nature to recreate a scene with beauty. I use discarded and knotted wood and bark for my art, turning something overlooked into something one can't stop looking at.
What would you do with $25,000?I would invest in 3 things; I would never have even tried pyrography if not for my late father. He was an incredible man who passed his woodshop down when he died of a rare brain condition. I would honour my father by investing in youth involvement in woodshows/competition in my area. - I would invest in research for Giant Cell Arteritis - a recent diagnosis of a rare brain condition that I am now battling myself. - And of course, I would invest in my family who support me in everything I do.
