I create art to tell my story honoring my culture, and identity while preserving memories and giving voice to experiences that go unnoticed.

My favorite type of art to create is mixed media. I discovered it during my junior year of high school, and it completely changed how I approach my work. Before that, I mainly focused on acrylic painting, but mixed media allowed me to experiment beyond paint. I began incorporating fabrics, puffy paint, glue, and other materials to add texture and depth. This exploration gave my artwork more dimension and meaning, making it feel more personal and expressive.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from my family, my life, and my memories. I find beauty in the moments I’ve lived through, especially those shaped by my culture and loved ones. Moving from Liberia, navigating change, and experiencing both challenges and growth have all influenced my perspective. I use art to preserve these memories, turning them into visual stories. Each piece I create reflects emotions, experiences, and connections that words often cannot fully express.
What would you do with $25,000?Receiving $25,000 would help me cover remaining tuition and fees not met by scholarships as I pursue a dual degree at MCAD. My goal is to become an art director and use my education to give back. I plan to open an art school or program in Monrovia, Liberia, similar to my grandfather’s school, but focused on art education. I also hope to create a gallery in the U.S. that offers classes, making art more accessible and inspiring others through creativity.
