Creating art is the only time I do not feel like the immigrant or the other. Art continues to be my translator when the words are not enough
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Because I live in an apartment accessibility to my work is key. I enjoy painting portraits of black and brown bodies. Acrylic allows me to share the stories of my people and the vibrancy of the work aligns with the fabric from my homeland.
Where do you find inspiration?I share the stories of my people through multiple different lenses. I enjoy discussing issues surrounding immigration. I argue the status quo when it comes to faith and religion. Most importantly, I discuss inequity as it relates to gender, class, and race.
What would you do with $25,000?Winning $25,000 allow me to stop living my double life. As a creative, we are constantly being torn by the need to survive versus thriving doing our crafts. I currently work a full-time job, own a business, and am trying to get my art out to the world. Winning this money would allow me to host a solo show. Have a studio space, and catch up on my student loans.
