Gabi G | Artist

Mixed media art has been my way of coping with chronic illness, as well as highlighting the joys of life in such a dark world.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Mixed media paintings with beaded embellishments. My favorite themes celebrate the divine feminine (life) and also ghosts, ghouls and the idea of afterlife (death). I also love creating pieces that highlight social justice issues and human rights that deserve recognition and care.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration everyday in the people I love, in strangers who show kindness, in the beauty of nature, and in the never ending cycle of life and death.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would continue building my studio to foster further work. I would use it to continue sharing my art on larger scales, hopefully through traveling exhibits. It is one of my dreams to curate a Queer BIPOC art show in the Omaha area. I would put some into savings - as a disabled person it’s important to have emergency medical funding. I would aim to gift any remaining funds; currently I regularly donate profits from sales for mutual aid funds.
